Hey there all, it sure has been awhile. However in my defense I have been growing the most amazing produce that you will ever taste. And if you don't believe me than come on down to a farmers market and give us a try.
We at Sunkissed Organics are all about saving the heirlooms. They are a HUGE part of our everyday life. As in what shall we grow this year so that we can save the seed and keep it going for years to come. There are so many varieties that have became extinct due to not being passed on. We believe every variety has it's own special characteristics and history for which we should make every effort to carry it on. Like many seed savers we are also more than happy to pass varieties we save along so that others can try their hand at growing them too.
Heirlooms are not only just for special interest they are also a necessity. Many large ag companies are turning to heirlooms for disease resistant genes to use in hybridizing other varieties.
If there is enough interest I will even put on a seed saving workshop late this summer at the La Porte Farmers Market. Just drop me an email if you would be interested in attending. Then we will go about setting up a date.
We also will be participating in the Heirloom Tomato Weekend at the Chicago Botanic Gardens(http://www.chicagobotanic.org/calendar/event/heirloom_tomato_weekend). This event was very well attended last year and should be just as wonderful this year.
